Yes, I think we’re all excited that the Jonas Brothers are back. But, the best thing about the reunion? The J-Sisters

It’s 2019, and officially known as the year the Jonas Brothers reunited. After announcing it on The Late Late Show, they released a music video for their brand new song Sucker, and the true stars of the show? Well, their partners!

Sophie Turner, Priyanka Chopra and Danielle Jonas are presented as powerful and desirable, but not in an objectifying way.

Not only is it rare for the love interests of male artists to be presented without being overly sexualised in pop music, but it’s also rare for the girlfriends/wives of the members to be embraced at all.

The reasons behind this? Primarily to keep the fans happy and to prevent any sort of hate against them. Speaking to Darren Paltrowitz, host of the Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz podcast, he says that boybands “often want to give the impression of being available”.

However, Paltrowitz talks about how introducing one’s partners in their music is a good thing, as “truthfulness is often found in great art”.

However, he believes this video, in particular, won’t make a lasting impact.

He says: “Music videos no longer have a long-lasting impact like they did in the 1980s and 1990s. Michael Jackson's Thriller music video was a big deal for years. But this video will make for a nice time capsule in terms of where the Jonas Brothers were at personally and professionally in early 2019.”

Yet speaking to Becki Biggins, Grammy-nominated jazz singer and songwriter, she hopes that the video will make a difference in the industry.

When asked if it will change the way videos are made, Biggins says: “I hope so. I think we’ve all seen enough objectification of women in music videos. This one is a breath of fresh air!”

“Their significant others are obviously a large part of their lives, and it’s great to see pop stars publicly demonstrating this in a respectful way. Plus, there’s so much chemistry between the couples that it makes for a really hot video!”

I think we can all agree that we want to see more of the J-Sisters in the Jonas Brothers’ revival. Will they make a lasting change? Only time will tell.
